Depending on the kind of work you do, you may be lucky enough to have this upcoming Monday off for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It’s an American Federal Holiday marking the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. Did you know that is wasn’t until the year 2000 that all 50 states have recognized and observed the holiday? It is a fairly new observance having first been signed into law by President Ronald Reagan in 1983 and it was first observed three years later when some states resisted observing the holiday as such, giving it alternative names or combining it with other holidays. While all states now observe the holiday, some did not name the day after King. In remembrance of the Baptist Minister who put himself on the line to contribute to what America is today, on Monday, January 16 many of us will remain home or attend celebrations. Martin Luther King Jr. was a leader in the Civil Rights Movement and spearheaded the advancement of civil rights using nonviolent civil disobedience based on his Christian beliefs.
If you are taking advantage of this three-day weekend and getting out of town, I have a peaceful little resort to share with you out in Indian Wells, CA. Why the Hyatt Regency at Indian Wells on Martin Luther King Jr. weekend? Well, one significant recognition this resort holds is that it hosted Chinese President Xi and his wife while they visited with President Obama in the area. The two Presidents discussed their commitment to work together and build a relationship on partnership, not conflict.
In the winter, Indian Wells is quite pleasant unlike the harsh summer, and you may even be able to enjoy some sites of snow in the surrounding mountains. Nestled among 45 acres of lush gardens, Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort and Spa provides the quintessential Palm Springs experience. Located within the exclusive Indian Wells community, guests have access to the renowned Indian Wells Golf Resort right next door. The Indian Wells resort is refreshing oasis in an iconic desert setting.
The newly renovated Indian Wells accommodations are warm, inviting and modern, creating the perfect morph of office and oasis. Enhancements such as Hyatt Plug Panel™ and KenetMD™ bath amenities make for a comfortable stay. Each of the guestrooms feature plush Hyatt Grand Beds®, Wi-Fi, a flat screen HDTV, iHome stereo with iPod® docking station, oversized work desk and bathrooms with marble countertops. You can slip on a thick terrycloth robe and enjoy the large bathroom with a soaking tub. We enjoyed the luxury suite and woke up every morning to enjoy coffee with panoramic views of the resort and golf courses. The sunken sitting area with a 47” wall-mounted TV and large sectional couch is quite cozy.
Agave Sunset Tequila Bar and Lounge
You can sip on a frozen margarita while overlooking the beautiful Indian Wells Golf Course at Agave Sunset Tequila Bar and Lounge. This casually sophisticated Palm Springs dining spot serves Southwestern fare, desert-inspired cocktails in the plush indoor lounge and lovely outdoor patio. Take in the brilliant sunsets on the terrace, catch the game on the flat-screen TVs and enjoy happy hour specials and live entertainment on Wednesday through Saturday. We loved the Carne Asada Tortas and Tacos.
If you want to stay close to the pool, then soak up the sun while sipping on refreshing cocktails from the Oasis Bar at the main pool. I have to mention that the pool area is quite busy with evening entertainment, such as movies over the pool while you soak in the warm water.
Lantana is there open-kitchen restaurant that serves fresh, seasonal cuisine and California wines. Reserve a table on the outdoor terrace and enjoy panoramic views of the desert.
Agua Serena Spa
The spa is recognized as one of the most coveted in Indian Wells. Agua Serena translates to tranquil waters. Water is the source of life and in this desert region water is a coveted resource. At this spa, you can embark on a journey of renewal and experience a full perspective of wellness by choosing products that honor the earth with ideal balance for your body. The organic spa focuses on bringing well-being and balance to the body. This wellness facility offers every component of health to ensure each guest’s needs are met in a personalized way.

Two championship golf courses, tennis, swimming pools, private poolside cabanas, and don’t forget, the deluxe spa are just a few ways to enjoy our full-service Indian Wells resort.
