Ahh…Strawberry Basil Lemonade is simply refreshing. Although it may be considered a summer drink, anything goes in California. My husband was welcomed home with this cocktail tonight. The recipe is from Romancing the Stove. So sweet, so sumptuous, what a kick!
This is a gourmet cocktail that is simple to put together, yet no one will ever guess that you didn’t get the help of a mixologist. Simply slice two ripe strawberries and chop one fresh basil leaf. Combine the strawberries and basil with a quarter teaspoon of sugar and refrigerate. After 15 minutes take out the berry mixture and muddle into a strawberry pulp. Put the pulp into a glass with 3 to 4 ice cubes. Add 1.5 oz of limoncello (Italian Lemon Liquor), 1/2 oz of vodka, and 1.5 oz of club soda. I added a little extra of the liquids and chose to a leave a few strawberry slices whole. I thought it looked pretty that way. This does turn into a strong drink.
It’s a sweet and tarty drink that leaves you wanting more. We love fresh basil in just about anything and this unique combination of the aphrodisiac ingredients of fresh basil and antioxidant and fiber-rich strawberries is splendid. Limoncello adds a feeling of European luxury to the drink. The beautiful drink helped us unwind.
