Shedding the Weight: Mind, Body and Spirit – Day 2 – Transforming Heavy to Light

This morning we woke up to chaos in the world as Belgium was terrorized and attacked. The heaviness that such news brings and our thoughts and prayers for those effected are undeniable. Please feel free to share your thoughts, release the heaviness and your pains here.

In today’s meditation, we explore how to transform the heaviness in our lives to our natural state of lightness. Natural things happen with lightness and ease without effort. Our essential nature is to be light and it is those heavy burdens that cause blockage in mind, body, and spirit.

As we learn to live consciously in the present moment, we find we don’t have to do anything to let go of burdens of pain and fear – they let go of us. Our natural state of balance in life is lightness and ease.

Transforming Heavy to Light

During each meditation we are given a centering thought and mantra.  The mantra are Sanskrit syllables carefully chosen to work with and empower the teaching of the day.

Today’s Centering Thought is: I am endlessly renewed in the present moment.
Today’s Mantra: Om Svayam Agurutva (Lightness is my true self)

Center yourself to begin a quite solitude of mind and spirit with the thought “I am endlessly renewed in the present moment.” Now begin to meditate by repeating the mantra: Om Svayam Agurutva. Each time your mind wanders come back by repeating this mantra and hold the meaning behind it – Lightness is my true self. Simply meditate for 20 minutes.

At the end of the meditation you have the opportunity to reflect with journal activities.

Today’s Journal Activities:

  1. Write down what felt heavy and resistant to you today, not just physically but emotionally as well.
  2. Describe your most effective tool for removing any feelings of heaviness. It could be taking an aromatherapy bath, or going salsa dancing.
  3. Write a short description of the moment today when you felt you were most fully engaged in the present. Also describe your state of mind – was it peaceful, alert, receptive?
  4. Reflect further on your experience today.

Heaviness of our burdens is caused by our attachment of the past, as well as anxiety and fear of the future. Old traumas and toxic conditioning cause heavy moods and lack the light of love. When we wholeheartedly face the burdens that challenge us we weaken its power. Invite lightness and flow into your lives by being preset in the moment.

The past loses its grip when you see you are not the person you use to be. You can slowly move towards this vison of yourself by releasing your old self and returning to the present. Dwelling on past burdens can only bring heavy thoughts, but not change. Recognize how to bring presence to light. Only by living in the presence can you renew the lightness.

You are free to perceive yourself and the world any way you choose. But to get to this you must process the things that are heavy in life. This won’t happen automatically, but you can start by recognizing the source of darkness and heaviness. Think about who in your life makes you feel bad about yourself, who creates anxiety for you, where do you find you biggest regrets. This is a private activity and it is not intended to place blame, but bring light of awareness into the shadows. When your dark shadows are lightened you can live in the present and feel light in mind, body and soul.

As you go through the rest of your day keep your self centered and in the present with the thought: I am endlessly renewed in the present moment.

“When you allow your ways to be light you go high.” ― Raphael Zernoff
