Shedding the Weight: Mind, Body and Spirit – Day 16 – Your Perception Holds the Key

Today’s meditation is about the power of our perceptions. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but so are love, self-esteem, truth, happiness, and optimism.

When your perceptions shift, your story shifts. You have this power to transform and have always had it. At any given moment, when you apply a negative tag to yourself, you are missing the opportunity to shift your perceptions. Instead, apply a positive tag and that will help change the value of your perception.

Your Perception Holds the Key

Today’s Centering Thought is: I see myself as a being of light.
Today’s Mantra: Ravaye Hum (I am the radiance of supreme light.)

Center yourself to begin a quiet solitude of mind and spirit with the thought “I see myself as a being of light.” Then begin to meditate by focusing on your breath and repeating the mantra: Ravaye Hum. This mantra activates the radiance of the light of consciousness, so that we may shine like the spiritual sun. Take deep breaths and with each breathe feel your mind body and spirit open just a little more to this affirmation. Each time your mind wanders come back by repeating this mantra and hold the meaning behind it: I am the radiance of supreme light. Simply meditate for 20 minutes.

Today’s Journal Activities:

  1. Put your attention on something or someone you regard as beautiful. Describe in detail the positive things you associate with this person or object. Also note how you feel about each quality.
  2. Now write down how you see these same qualities in yourself. If you feel inhibited, describe yourself as seen through the eyes of someone who really loves you.
  3. Fix your attention on someone you feel negative about. How would this person be seen by someone who really loves them? Allow this shift in perception to sink in as you write.
  4. Reflect further on your experience today.
We can be weighed down with the problems of life and see things as burdensome or we can look at the world with illuminated light.
Two people can look at the same chair and one can see a rickety rocker while the other sees a beloved grandparent and loving stories. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder along with love and truth. No matter what the matter is you can be gloomy because your perception is weighted by heaviness or you can view with lightness.
Even a bouquet of flowers can be ugly and depressing if you are depressed. Things become better because of you. See yourself as the creator of your personal reality.
“The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” ― W.B. Yeats
