Shedding the Weight: Mind, Body and Spirit – Day 13 – The Present Moment Is Your Magnet and Your Compass

The highest most whole state of being is to be present in each moment. There is a magnitude that pulls us into the present if we allow it to guide us.

Mind and body only live in the present. And in today’s meditation, we discover that the present moment holds tremendous organizing power in life, like a magnetic force. The power of our ever-present awareness automatically instills a sense of calm and happiness.

We heal this moment in time by centering ourselves and finding the place of peace, joy, and pure being. You can apply self-awareness and quickly learn when you are present and when you aren’t. This allows you to restore yourself to “the now” any time you want.

Today’s meditation is dedicated to creating a space within the present and that peace is possible in this very moment – focusing on shedding the weight and healing the burdens in our lives.

The Present Moment Is Your Magnet and Your Compass

Today’s Centering Thought is: I am drawn into the present moment with ease and joy.
Today’s Mantra: Om Hreem (Life is one unified wholeness.)

Center yourself to begin a quiet solitude of mind and spirit with the thought “I am drawn into the present moment with ease and joy.” Then begin to meditate by focusing on your breath and repeating the mantra: Om Hreem. This mantra opens awareness to the eternal present that exists every moment and reveals the eternal quality of consciousness with every experience. Take deep breaths and with each breathe feel your mind body and spirit open just a little more to this affirmation. Each time your mind wanders come back by repeating this mantra and hold the meaning behind it: Life is one unified wholeness. Simply meditate for 20 minutes.

Today’s Journal Activities:

  1. What were the moments today when you felt most present? These would be marked by feeling happy, free, unburdened, accepted, alive, creative, and filled with energy. Reinforce how good it felt to be present.
  2. Write down the moments today when you were pulled out of the now by distractions, discomfort in your body, bad memories, habits, other people’s words, negative emotions, or stress.
  3. Describe three ways to decrease these influences that took you out of the present moment. For example, you could make your work space quieter or turn off your smartphone for a while.
  4. Reflect further on your experience today.

The secret of happiness lives in the present. When we dwell in the past or worry about the future, we resist the natural flow of right here right now. Every brain cell lives totally in the present. Brain signals are chemical reactions or electrical impulses – this tells us living in the present is the only way to live.

People get lost in regrets of the past or forms of unreality in the future and dwelling outside the present is disabling and burdening. Carrying the weight of the past is distressing and burdening both emotionally and physically. Physically we carry it in body weight and emotionally we put the now into a place we avoid.

Magnetism pulls us into the now if we let it and life is best when it’s fresh, new and spontaneous. When we can follow magnetism of the present moment it leads us into the moment that matters. This current day is where happiness is possible and real. Heal this moment in time by finding the self and peace in meditation. After a while it will happen more easily outside of meditation.

“The present moment is filled with joy and happiness. If you are attentive, you will see it.” ― Thích Nhất Hạnh
