For this Fork and a Flick Friday we are gearing up for Super Bowl Sunday with a football themed movie. My choice with a great cocktail idea to serve during the big game is Jerry Maguire. This movie has it all. It is great for the guys and the girls. It’s a romantic comedy, but a sports movie and about the business of sports as well. The star studded cast definitely helped this movie in the box office and the famous quote “You had me at Hello” has been repeated by men and women for the past 19 years since the movie was released. It had a star studded cast with Tom Cruise, Renée Zellweger, and Cuba Gooding, Jr, who took home an Oscar for his performance in this film.

Jerry Maguire is a sports agent who has a moral epiphany and is fired for expressing it. He decides to put his new philosophy to the test as an independent with the only athlete who stays with him. He’s joined on his journey to redemption by two unlikely allies, Rod Tidwell, a second-tier wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals; and Dorothy Boyd, a wistful 26-year-old single mother who departs her accountancy position with SMI for a very uncertain future with her new boss. Also, keep in mind that Maguire is terrible at intimacy and holding on to a relationship, yet he starts a romantic relationship with Dorothy Boyd.

As the movie evolves Maguire acquires another client Frank Cushman, played by Jerry O’Connell. He is slated to go No. 1 in the draft and is stolen by another agent the night before the draft. In a scene, Matt Cushman, Cush’s father (Beau Bridges), drinks “bloody beer,” a mixture of beer and tomato juice. It’s been called bloody beer, red beer, red eye, and many other terms. It’s going to make a fun Super Bowl Cocktail for beer lovers, who would rather pass on the hard liquor cocktails.

It’s easy to make a bloody beer. There are some variations to it where you can add cayenne pepper and lime, however that is usually referred to as a Mexican Red Beer. We are sticking to an all American Red Beer with just a mix of beer with tomato juice. If you want to concentrate on the beer, another recipe for bloody beer calls for a full glass of beer with just a splash of tomato juice or Bloody Mary mix.
