Belief is Dynamic and Alive: Day 1 of Become What You Believe – 21 Day Meditation Experience with Oprah and Deepak Chopra

“What each of us believes in is up to us, but life is impossible without believing in something.”

— Kentetsu Takamori

The above quote is posted with the first meditation that has been sent to me for the 21 Day Meditation Experience. I just completed the first day of meditation in my 21 day commitment. The meditation revolved around our beliefs and how they are always in motion, constantly influencing our thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Our unconscious beliefs are always affecting us as well. Each day in the program we receive a message.

Today’s Message of the Day: “To use the power of belief to our greatest benefit, we need to become self-aware. In doing so, we attune our beliefs to our deepest spiritual aspirations. As we continue this Meditation Experience over the next few weeks, we will see our beliefs manifest as greater love, purpose, and meaning in our lives.”

The CENTERING THOUGHT for today’s meditation experience was:

“My beliefs enhance my life.”

The SANSKRIT MANTRA used in the meditation:

Om Bhavam Namah (I am absolute existence)

The entire discussion and meditation was merely 20 minutes out of my entire day, which was well worth the benefits that it gives you for the entire day. The message stays with you and enhances your day towards your goals.

If you haven’t already signed up to follow along and practice with the guided meditations, I suggest you take 10 minutes out of your day to find a quiet place, take deep breaths and center yourself around the thought “My beliefs enhance my life”. Then simply repeat to yourself “Om Bhavam Namah” to keep your mind from wandering. Dedicate 10 minutes to this practice today and let me know how you feel.

We are also given an opportunity to reflect in a journal that incites you with questions. Today’s four journal prompts were:

  1. Write down three or more beliefs that support you in your daily life. Some examples are, “I believe in being true to myself,” “I believe in service and giving,” “I believe in loyalty,” “I believe in being a loving person,” or “I believe in guidance from a higher power or truth.”
  2. For each belief you wrote down, list the ways you use it as a guide for living. For instance, if you believe in loyalty, you could put, “I support my friends and co-workers and stick with them through thick and thin.”
  3. Now, write down your thoughts about how much your personal fulfillment and enjoyment is supported by your beliefs.
  4. Use this space to reflect further on your experience today.

I would love for anyone who would like to take a stab at these questions to go ahead and send me your responses in the comments. Let’s generate some deep discussions!

It’s a lot for one day! I totally got inspired to make a robust and woody flavored hummus. Check back for my next post on Green Olives and Coriander Hummus.
