Watermelon Dipped In Honey

The summer and particularly August is when watermelon is harvested around here, so this is the perfect time for my watermelon recipes. The right time to pick watermelon is when the watermelon is not too ripe or unripe. You will know when watermelon is ready to be harvested by picking it up and noticing the underside of the watermelon that was on the ground, it will turn light green or yellow if it is time to pick a watermelon. The surface color of the watermelon will also become dull. Generally, a watermelon is ready to be picked about 80 after you plant it from seed. This means, around day 75 or so, you can start watching for ripe watermelon. It will be instinctual for you when it comes to picking the watermelon, just be patient.

So, my project this month is to come up with all the watermelon recipes I possibly can. Today, I’m offering a simple way to eat watermelons with a kiss of honey that gives a sweeter floral flavor to your watermelon bite. I think watermelon dipped in honey is the freshest and easiest way to enjoy watermelon.

By the way, did you know that honey stored in sealed containers can remain stable for decades? You may even be able to keep it for centuries. However, shelf life of honey that you buy at the store is around two years. Keep in mind that honey is susceptible to physical and chemical changes during storage. It also tends to darken and lose its aroma and flavor or crystallize.
